On this wintery day so very frigid
I recall a memory so vivid
Of my mom and I when I was a child
My mom took my sis and me
To a wide open field filled with strawberries
For a day filled with fun under the sun
We each got a basket and told to fill to the top
Luscious strawberries we ate unable to stop
We tried to pick the juiciest ones that were red
My sister couldn’t differentiate
So she picked the unripe ones instead
We laughed and enjoyed each other’s company
Till it was time to go home to kitchen duty
To strawberry jam making and strawberry pie baking….
Oh those days have gone by, now there are just memories
So I’m spreading out my tablecloth filled with printed strawberries
Glad I have something to remind me of good ol’ days gone by
And made up my mind that I will try
When the weather turns warmer a strawberry patch I’ll see
And enjoy the day out with my family.
