They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. That being said, plan a nice dinner in honor of Fathers Day. Add something nice to your table linens such as a gingham cloth tablecloth and matching cloth napkins, or a bandana style tablecloth, napkins or placemats.

Summer is here and that means something different to everyone. For some, it means spending their free time soaking up the sun at the beach or at the pool. Others would rather stay indoors and enjoy an air conditioned room. Many, due to the economy are not traveling far and instead bringing summer fun to their home and backyards. Whether you enjoy a peaceful quiet dinner or love to throw a summer party, here are some of our favorite summer tablecloth picks for an indoor or outdoor table.

summer at the beach

Lava-the two tone design come in seven fabulous colors. Available in rectangle, square, and round tablecloths as well as cloth napkins and placemats. I especially love the “Wet” color since it reminds me of the ocean waves. Another great color is “Cherry” since it is a great fruit which comes to mind during this season. “Kiwi” reminds me of the vast blades of grass that surround us during this time of year.

lava tablecloths

Wedgewood Blue-is a flannel backed vinyl tablecloth with a Moiré design. Its beautiful blue color is great tablecloth for a poolside party or for a home near a beachfront.

Printed Vinyl -are great for your pool parties or outdoor patios since they are durable and easy to clean. Enjoy Manchester Rose with pretty pink roses and buds, Elegant Fern, Savoy Garden and Wild Berries which reminds me of a summer’s day picking berries in the field.  Available in placemats, fitted tablecloths, and oblong, round and oval tablecloths.

Cloth Napkins-even something as small as a napkin can bring a table to life. Choose a bold and bright color or a pale pastel and match it to some freshly picked flowers or any other serving dish or accessory.

There are so many things to do while planning a wedding. There’s deciding on the style of the wedding dress, the flowers, the wedding décor, and the table linens for the wedding. Depending where you are from, there are many different customs carried out during the wedding ceremony. Here are the most common ones and some interesting reasons behind what we do in honor of this special day:

Wedding Stamp

June Weddings:

In the United States, June is the most popular month for weddings, followed by August. Some say the reason for this is that the Roman goddess Juno rules over marriage, the hearth and childbirth, hence the popularity of June weddings.

The Wedding Dress:

Queen Victoria made white the bridal color of choice when she wore it to wed Prince Albert in 1840.However, because white is the color of mourning in Eastern cultures, white wedding dresses are uncommon.

The Flowers:

Early Roman brides carried a bunch of herbs, such as garlic and rosemary, under their veils to symbolize fidelity and fertility and to ward off evil. These herbs served as a precursor to the modern bridal bouquet.

Flower girls traditionally threw flower petals in the bride’s path to lead her to a sweet, plentiful future.

Guests in ancient times would tear off part of the bride’s gown as tokens of good luck, leading to the tradition of the bride throwing both her garter and her bouquet

Wedding rings are often placed on the third finger of the left hand because ancient Egyptians believed the vein in that hand (which the Romans called the “vein of love”) ran directly to the heart.

Throwing rice at weddings symbolizes fertility, prosperity, and bounty. In some countries, the bride might even carry or wear sheaves of grain. However, many modern churches and wedding locations discourage rice throwing because rice can be fatal for birds that eat it.

Wedding bells are an important symbol of a wedding. Traditionally, it was believed that demons were scared off by loud sounds, so following a wedding ceremony, anything that could make noise was used to create a diversion

Other Fun Facts:

The cake:

Queen Victoria’s wedding cake was three yards wide and weighed 300 pounds.

Queen Elizabeth II had 12 wedding cakes. The one she cut at her wedding was nine feet tall and weighed 500 pounds.

In the United States, there is no law or religious dictate that says the bride must take the groom’s last name. However, approximately 70% of Americans agree that a bride should change her last name.

Nearly $72 billion is spent on weddings every year in the United States.

Here is a list of some actual crazy marriage laws in some States in the US:

MISSISSIPPI: A marriage license will not be issued if the applicants appear to be drunk, insane or imbeciles

If you’re planning to get a marriage license in Mississippi, don’t start celebrating too early. If the circuit court clerk issuing the license believes you and/or your significant other is drunk, insane or an “imbecile,” he or she will not grant you a license.

NEW ORLEANS: Mystics, fortune tellers and palm readers may not perform marriage ceremonies

Tough luck for anyone hoping to have their favorite fortune teller officiate their wedding. In New Orleans, this is illegal.

MONTANA: The bride and groom do not have to be present during the wedding

Intended for members of the U.S. Armed Forces, “double proxy” marriages allow a couple to be married using “proxies.” That is, the bride and groom can each authorize someone to stand in for them during the ceremony. A judge leads the two “proxies” in the marriage vows, and after the proxies sign the requisite paperwork, the “original” bride and groom are legally married. While other states allow “single proxy” marriages, Montana is the only to allow both the bride and the groom to be absent during the ceremony.

DELAWARE: Annulment permitted if one or both parties entered into the marriage as a jest or dare

Next time you play “truth or dare,” be careful not to dare anyone to get married. If you live in Delaware, that’s grounds for an annulment. Makes you wonder how many couples dared each other to get married before this law was added to the books.

Every bride, and every mother of the bride, is only too well aware of the feeling. It’s the biggest day of your life and you want every last detail to be perfect. If you are planning the wedding of your dreams you have so much to think about; you’ll be thinking about your dress or dresses, your bridesmaids’ dresses and perhaps, even more importantly, what the mother of the bride is wearing!

We understand that completely, but we would like to gently remind you of something else that needs dressing. Yes, your wedding tables! They may be low down on your list of priorities, coming after entertainment, hospitality and flowers, but if you are paying attention to all the small details, tablecloths for weddings are crucial.

Our range of stylish wedding tablecloths will help to give your wedding the WOW factor that you desire. We have traditional tablecloths that come in several colors and sizes, such as the Diamond Rectangle tablecloth, with a matching range of round tablecloths, along with the fabulously chic Kensington range, and the simply sophisticated Sophia range.

Kensington Round Tablecloth

If you have a color theme choose table linen from our Elegant range, as these are ideally suited as colored wedding tablecloths. For a contemporary wedding, use a bright and bold colored tablecloth and top with a plain, light color. Dress the table as boldly as you like, perhaps using Moroccan style lanterns as a centerpiece rather than flowers, and bright colored tea glasses for a really unusual touch, or colored wine glasses. These are perfect party tablecloths too, so you can use them over!

Lavender Round Tablecloth

For a more feminine effect top our pastel shade tablecloths off with one of our sensationally pretty table toppers that comes in square, round and star shapes. Decorate with flowers and ribbons, candles and delicate tableware and crockery.

Similarly if you are considering the current vogue for nostalgia and retro themed weddings, lacy table toppers are perfect for a vintage tablecloth effect. Vintage chic is all the rage at the moment. Choose a cream or pale pink tablecloth and then accessorize it with gold and silver tableware, such as candelabras, with heavy glassware and fresh flowers. Keep the table plain and simple, using your vintage tablecloth as the backdrop for your work of art. Don’t overdo confetti or favors, and certainly do not use anything plastic or metallic.

For the ultimate finish top your vintage tablecloth or wedding tablecloth with beautiful lacy Victorian Rose placemats as these will provide the prettiest of talking points.

Ivory Kensington Rectangle Tablecloth

Take your time browsing our selection of wedding tablecloths and party tablecloths. Let yourself be inspired by our vintage tablecloths and our Victorian Rose placemats. Carefully consider what theme you would like for your wedding tables, choose your tablecloths and then start to dream about the accessories you can add. This is your wedding journey and here at Yourtablecloth.com we’re so happy to be a part of it!

Easter is a spring festival widely celebrated across the world. If you are planning a holiday party or dinner you’d like to amaze your guests by dressing your table with particular care to best reflect the coming of the bountiful season and the young spring growth.

Fruits, flowers, eggs and young animals are the general themes of the season, and Easter is best suited to pastel colors, but of course it’s entirely up to you what to choose. You may like to mix your ideas up or just go for something neat and elegant. If you’re inviting children, their needs need to be taken into consideration as you plan your themed dinner.

Victorian Rose Rectangle Tablecloth

Starting from the bottom up, choose your tablecloth with care. You can choose an elegant white or cream lace tablecloth. To have a stand out Easter decor why not use a fabulous Elegant Solid Color tablecloth available in square, rectangle and round, and in 31 different colors and a variety of sizes. Neon colored tablecloths such as pink; neon green and neon yellow are great seasonal colored tablecloths for your dinner. On top of that vibrant base however, keep a clean, fresh look by toning down the color. Consider covering the cloth with a table topper such as Rose Table Topper or beautiful Heirloom Table Topper. Alternatively make use of a table runner such as our Rose, Heirloom or Elizabeth table runners and complement them with matching placemats.

Heirloom Table Runner

A different approach would be to choose a flowered or gingham print tablecloth, especially if you’re trying for an Easter picnic theme. If that’s the case, don’t overload on the accessories as not to create a busy scene and take away from your setting.

In terms of decoration for your table, the world is your Easter egg really! Try to avoid covering the table in chocolate Easter eggs if you’re expecting your guests to eat a proper lunch or dinner. Choose non-edible decorations. If you do have children coming along, buy some balloons that match your theme colors and tie them to the back of their chairs.

Eggs are a great decoration. If you’re artistic or crafty you can blow your own eggs and then decorate them. A marbled egg in an egg cup with a name on it makes an effective place setting for example. Alternatively you can buy wooden eggs from craft shops which you can paint in bright colors and then add dots, stripes etc. and use to decorate a basket or a glass bowl or vase.

Use Elegant Cloth Napkins if you’re using the Solid Color Elegant Tablecloth to match and buy a set of wooden napkin rings, or make your own (see our post below!) and cover them with fabric, or paint them, or tie a silk daffodil, fluffy chick or bunny to them, and lay them gracefully at each place setting. Similarly you can leave favors at each setting too.

easter flowers

Your Easter centerpiece can be truly magnificent. Flowers are obvious but can be expensive, so if you want to do something a little different, try decorating a large glass bowl or vase with eggs or jelly beans. Alternatively decorate a basket with a mix of flowers such as tulips and daffodils, ribbon and plenty of foliage. You’ll be surprised at the greenery you can utilize from your garden to create an interesting and unusual bouquet, and of course daffodils and tulips are ubiquitous at this time of year and therefore cheaper than buying a readymade bouquet. Just one word of warning though, daffodil sap is poisonous and should not come into contact with food.

So that’s a few ideas from us here at Yourtablecloth.com. If you have any thoughts or ideas, why don’t you let us know and we’ll include them on the blog. Send us your photos too. We’d love to see your table decorations and we’ll share them with everyone.

One of the positive effects of the current economic crisis is that it is becoming increasingly fashionable to dine at home once more. For a single person looking to mingle, dining in doesn’t seem to be the right way to go. Or is it? If you’re looking for an excuse to throw a dinner party and you want to get to know some new people, Yourtablecloth.com might have just the answer for you. How about a dating dinner?

If you’ve tried online dating, speed dating, and blind dating and you’re reaching the point where it all seems a bit much or you just want to try something different, this can be a really fun way to spend an evening. Rope a couple of friends in to help you out with the planning and cooking and, if necessary, to share the cost.

Decide on a theme. I’m going to suggest ‘chic and sophisticated’. Send out invitations to people who are also single, whom you may not know so well, friends of friends or online matches you would like to see in person. Make it a rule that everyone has to make the effort and dress up. This is a great and non-threatening way to meet people in person that you only otherwise know online.

dinner date setting

Decorate your table to match your theme. For my dating dinner I’m going to choose the elegant rectangle tablecloth that comes in a range of colors on the Yourtablecloth.com website. I like the idea of black. There’s something very cool about that. In terms of placemats I would choose the Parchment placemats, and I would compliment them with little name settings written in someone’s best copperplate handwriting, or if you’re really stuck, type them on your laptop and print them out. For napkins, choose a color from the elegant cloth napkin range (you have a fabulous range of 31 to choose from) that best matches your theme. For me, I’m going with red because this table is really going to make a bold statement!

Parchment Placemat

Use matching glasses, cutlery and crockery so that you can dress the table settings beautifully or borrow something from your friends. Make sure those glasses are shining! Decorate the table how you see fit. For a straightforward look you can opt for candles, but as this is a dating party I would suggest fairly lights. These will add sparkle to the ambience and that’s exactly what you’re after. Secondly, if you would like to use confetti, opt for the metallic variety. You could keep this all one color – silver to complement the place mats for example, or perhaps red to match the cloth napkins. Alternatively scatter crystal effect gems across the table. You will need to be careful about glasses over balancing however. Finally, place little dishes of heart shaped or love related sweets around the table.

assorted color cloth napkins

Get people in a receptive mood for the party as soon as they arrive. Purposefully choose music that is slow and has a steady beat, nothing too frantic. You want people to relax and chat to each other.  Offer non-alcoholic cocktails to the drivers in your group.

As the host or hostess your responsibility will be to break down some barriers and help people feel comfortable with each other so keep the chat going.  Make all the introductions and try to set people at ease. Then serve your delicious dinner and keep everyone chatting.

By the end of the evening your guests will know each other a great deal better and will have had a really fun evening out, thanks to your creative efforts. They’ll appreciate all the effort you went to and will remember your dinner table for a long time. Hopefully one or more of you will meet up again and the dating dinner will have proved to be a success.

Why not send us a photo of your dating themed dinner table and we’ll showcase it on the blog?

It is wonderful to see how a talented person can take a simple piece of canvas and paint and create a masterpiece; a musical instrument or a piano is used to burst forth a melodious song. At a wedding or party, a simple cloth napkin can be transformed into a beautiful design and enhance the table setting and the atmosphere of the event.

There are many uses for a cloth napkin. The most obvious and practical reason to use a cloth napkin is to keep yourself tidy and your clothing clean. Many years ago it was used to wipe the sweat off ones brow on a hot summer’s day. It can also be used as a beautiful decoration for a wedding or event. It is not always practical to put food out on each plate at a wedding or party. Salads may wilt and get soggy and appetizers may not keep to the correct serving temperature or simply get spoiled if it’s out for too long. That is not the case at a restaurant, since each person plans on ordering a different item. Instead of leaving an empty plate or drinking glass on the table, the table is dressed up with a pretty cloth napkin to create an elegant table setting.

napkin with tulip

Some napkins are nice enough to be displayed on their own since today; napkins come in many different colors and printed styles. Napkins are usually matching a party or wedding tablecloth at an event.  When they are folded into different shapes the napkins make a real statement.  It’s great to put a stylish folded napkin on the table instead of filling the plate or drinking glass with food or drink.

assorted napkin designs

There are many ways for a napkins to be folded are here are just some of them. They can be folded into a pocket so silverware or invitations can be put in it. Flowers can be inserted in the pocket as well. Depending on your event, tuxedos, roses, pyramids, or fleur de lis styles can dress up the occasion. For the upcoming holiday of Easter a napkin can be folded into a bunny or rolled up as a carrot with the silverware sticking out of it as the leaves.

There are many how to books and videos and the possibilities are endless. Have fun playing around with the designs and create one that’s right for you and your occasion. We’d love to see your pictures and creative ideas of how your table gets dressed for an occasion.
