The Advantages of Using a Vinyl Tablecloth

Many people prefer using vinyl tablecloths over cloth and here are some of the reasons why:

It is affordable for anyone on a budget, perfect for a family that uses a tablecloth for their everyday dinner table or a restaurant entity serving customers on a daily basis.  They are strong and durable. It can be used over and over again.

Vinyl tablecloths are great for outdoors. When the weather starts getting nicer we tend to want to spend some quality time outdoors. The weather though can be unpredictable. When using a vinyl tablecloth, there is no worrying about the rain ruining your tablecloth. It is also more resistant to sunlight which keeps the color lasting longer. Our fitted tablecloths have an elasticized band that keeps the tablecloth firmly in place so if children tug at it, food and drink will have less of a chance to spill over and if it’s windy, the wind will not blow it away. How do I measure the right size tablecloth for my table

When purchasing a tablecloth, customers always ask what size tablecloth they need for their table. In order to figure that out, you need to answer a few questions:

What shape table do you have?

To figure out the dimensions of the table measure the diameter or the length of the table for a round table and the length and width of a table for rectangle and square. For oval sizes measure the long diameter and the short diameter. If using leaves or extensions please make sure to include that in your measurement.

What is the drop length of the table?

To determine the drop length of the table (which is the fabric that extends from the edge of the table down) will depend on what type of occasion you will be using the tablecloth for.

The height of most tables is 30” inches. For casual dining table people like to have an 8 inch drop and for formal dining a 15 inch drop. For a table being used as a serving table or a display table you may want it to reach the floor and measure 30 inches. Keep in mind that in an eating area you don’t want people tripping over a too long tablecloth or having their evening bags lost under the tablecloth!  If you are not sure what size drop you prefer, drape a napkin or towel over the edge of the table to get a better idea.

Now that I have that information what do I do?

Multiply the desired drop length by 2 (since the drop is the same on both sides of the table) and add the result to the actual length of your table. This is the tablecloth length. Determine the tablecloth width in the same manner. For a circular table multiply the drop length by two and add that to the diameter. Remember you must double the drop measurement as you have to drop down on both sides of the width and both ends of the length.

Picnic Thoughts and Ideas

Spring is upon us and with it comes some beautiful weather. The sun is shining, and flowers are beginning to bloom. What a great reason to spend time outdoors with family and friends. It’s so nice out that we don’t want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen preparing lunch and dinner.

A great way to have your fun outdoors and eat there too is to have a picnic. One can have a romantic picnic for two, a family lunch or dinner, or a get together with family or friends. It can be taking time out from a trip to stop and eat or purposely creating a picnic outing.

Whether spending time as a couple or having a large outdoor gathering, one thing is for sure: food is needed! Some people prefer to bring along readymade foods. This way, there is less food preparation and more outdoor enjoyment.  Classic picnic foods are cold cuts or cold chicken, sandwiches, tuna and egg salad, peanut butter and jelly and potato salads. For others, a barbecue is a great way to have a quick warm meal outdoors.  Watermelon and fresh fruit are great and refreshing desserts in both cases! Mouth watering! It’s time to spread out your picnic tablecloth and dig in.

It’s very common to see red and white checkered tablecloth, also known as gingham tablecloths used for picnics today. Care to know why? In the days of the early settlers in the American Midwest, the women would flag down the men riding horses with red and white checkered tablecloths to indicate that it was time for the customary communal meal. The waving of a tablecloth – typical red and white checked – announced that dinner was served.

Wines are made in white, red and rosé versions. In Italy, the white and red checkered tablecloth were used to symbolize the color of the red and white wines. The rosé wine bears resemblance of roses that were placed in the center of the table to enhance the decor.

During World War Two there was a shortage of fabrics worldwide. Women had to make do with whatever material was available to them. Women cut patterns out of the red and white checkered table cloths and used them to make stylish dresses for themselves.

Spring Art Fun

It is a few days into spring and we are still waiting for the warm weather to come our way. Instead we are awaiting a snow storm…yet again. Who would believe we would have cold weather and snow this time of year? Since some of us are choosing to stay indoors until the spring weather arrives, we decided to have some fun with a program called Wordle. Wordle.net is a program that pulls words from texts that you provide. It can be created with different fonts, colors and shapes. For spring sake we created one with spring colors from one of our blogs.

In the spring, butterflies begin to gather nectar from the first flowers of the season. Here is a Wordle created in honor of some of the spring flowers which are daffodils, tulips, irises, lilies, and hyacinths.

Dandelions first came from Asia, and now call the entire world home. Dandelions can be used both as a food and a medicine and the seeds provide an important food to many small birds.

Here is an interesting fact about spring. Baby Birds are born with the ability to sing but they must learn the specific songs of their species. They are thought to acquire the songs between ten to sixty days of birth and begin to sing them the next spring.

Planning a Dating Dinner

One of the positive effects of the current economic crisis is that it is becoming increasingly fashionable to dine at home once more. For a single person looking to mingle, dining in doesn’t seem to be the right way to go. Or is it? If you’re looking for an excuse to throw a dinner party and you want to get to know some new people, Yourtablecloth.com might have just the answer for you. How about a dating dinner?

If you’ve tried online dating, speed dating, and blind dating and you’re reaching the point where it all seems a bit much or you just want to try something different, this can be a really fun way to spend an evening. Rope a couple of friends in to help you out with the planning and cooking and, if necessary, to share the cost.

Decide on a theme. I’m going to suggest ‘chic and sophisticated’. Send out invitations to people who are also single, whom you may not know so well, friends of friends or online matches you would like to see in person. Make it a rule that everyone has to make the effort and dress up. This is a great and non-threatening way to meet people in person that you only otherwise know online.

Decorate your table to match your theme. For my dating dinner I’m going to choose the elegant rectangle tablecloth that comes in a range of colors on the Yourtablecloth.com website. I like the idea of black. There’s something very cool about that. In terms of placemats I would choose the Parchment placemats, and I would compliment them with little name settings written in someone’s best copperplate handwriting, or if you’re really stuck, type them on your laptop and print them out. For napkins, choose a color from the elegant cloth napkin range (you have a fabulous range of 31 to choose from) that best matches your theme. For me, I’m going with red because this table is really going to make a bold statement!

Parchment Placemat

Use matching glasses, cutlery and crockery so that you can dress the table settings beautifully or borrow something from your friends. Make sure those glasses are shining! Decorate the table how you see fit. For a straightforward look you can opt for candles, but as this is a dating party I would suggest fairly lights. These will add sparkle to the ambience and that’s exactly what you’re after. Secondly, if you would like to use confetti, opt for the metallic variety. You could keep this all one color – silver to complement the place mats for example, or perhaps red to match the cloth napkins. Alternatively scatter crystal effect gems across the table. You will need to be careful about glasses over balancing however. Finally, place little dishes of heart shaped or love related sweets around the table.

Get people in a receptive mood for the party as soon as they arrive. Purposefully choose music that is slow and has a steady beat, nothing too frantic. You want people to relax and chat to each other.  Offer non-alcoholic cocktails to the drivers in your group.

As the host or hostess your responsibility will be to break down some barriers and help people feel comfortable with each other so keep the chat going.  Make all the introductions and try to set people at ease. Then serve your delicious dinner and keep everyone chatting.

By the end of the evening your guests will know each other a great deal better and will have had a really fun evening out, thanks to your creative efforts. They’ll appreciate all the effort you went to and will remember your dinner table for a long time. Hopefully one or more of you will meet up again and the dating dinner will have proved to be a success.

The Incredible Napkin Creations

It is wonderful to see how a talented person can take a simple piece of canvas and paint and create a masterpiece; a musical instrument or a piano is used to burst forth a melodious song. At a wedding or party, a simple cloth napkin can be transformed into a beautiful design and enhance the table setting and the atmosphere of the event.

There are many uses for a cloth napkin. The most obvious and practical reason to use a cloth napkin is to keep yourself tidy and your clothing clean. Many years ago it was used to wipe the sweat off ones brow on a hot summer’s day. It can also be used as a beautiful decoration for a wedding or event. It is not always practical to put food out on each plate at a wedding or party. Salads may wilt and get soggy and appetizers may not keep to the correct serving temperature or simply get spoiled if it’s out for too long. That is not the case at a restaurant, since each person plans on ordering a different item. Instead of leaving an empty plate or drinking glass on the table, the table is dressed up with a pretty cloth napkin to create an elegant table setting.

Some napkins are nice enough to be displayed on their own since today; napkins come in many different colors and printed styles. Napkins are usually matching a party or wedding tablecloth at an event.  When they are folded into different shapes the napkins make a real statement.  It’s great to put a stylish folded napkin on the table instead of filling the plate or drinking glass with food or drink.

There are many ways for a napkins to be folded are here are just some of them. They can be folded into a pocket so silverware or invitations can be put in it. Flowers can be inserted in the pocket as well. Depending on your event, tuxedos, roses, pyramids, or fleur de lis styles can dress up the occasion. For the upcoming holiday of Easter a napkin can be folded into a bunny or rolled up as a carrot with the silverware sticking out of it as the leaves.

How Do I Choose the Right Color Table Linens for a Wedding or Party

Congratulations! You’re preparing for a wedding, a party, or a very special event. There are so many details that go into an event and one could never imagine how many details there are until you’re the one making it! You’d like to be organized and so you make a check list of what has to be done. The gown, hair, makeup, and wedding cake are all taken care of and now you would like to focus on the color of the wedding or party tablecloth. You want the occasion to be a memorable one and the color of the tablecloth you will choose will add a tremendous amount of ambiance to the decorum.

The most common tablecloth colors are white or ivory. Black tablecloths are also popular. You may have a theme or a favorite color in mind. It is a good idea to check out the hall where your party will take place to make sure that the color you choose does not clash with the surroundings. You may have picked a beautiful lavender tablecloth however; if the wallpaper on the interior of the hall has hot pink on it, the tablecloths will not be complimentary.  If you like strong, bold colors consider using a table runner or napkins in the color you prefer and use a white or ivory tablecloth instead.

Take the lighting into account. The lighting will make a difference on which color tablecloth you choose.  Is your event indoors or outdoors?  Are you planning a setting that is dark and romantic?  If the hall has dim lighting a gold or glittery tablecloth will create a dazzling effect to your party. It is a good idea to bring a color swatch into the hall so you can rest assured that the color you pick is the right one for the occasion.
